Hospital fire toll rises to 23

The toll in the hospital fire here mounted to 23 today with the death of two persons, including a woman, who were undergoing treatment at separate hospitals here and in Cuttack.

A 24-year-old patient, who was shifted from the fire-ravaged private hospital on Monday night after the mishap, died at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, hospital Superintendent P C Rath said.

The victim was identified as Sk. Qurban, who had been undergoing treatment in the trauma ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital, he said.

Qurban was suffering from acute trauma after the fire, apart from his other ailments.
 

Another patient, Annapurna Samantray (65) from Brahmagiri in Puri district, died at AMRI hospital in Bhubaneswar where she had been shifted after the fire incident at Sum Hospital, an AMRI spokesman said.

With this, the toll which stood at 21 till yesterday, climbed to 23.
