HRD issues showcause notice to Garhwal varsity authorities

The human resource development ministry has sought an explanation from authorities of the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University over allegations of irregularities.

It is learnt that there were allegations that the university had affiliated many colleges even though it is a non-affiliating university.

The HRD ministry had earlier written to President Pranab Mukherjee, who is the Visitor of all central universities to seek permission to issue a showcause notice with regard to the alleged irregularities.

Officials said that following a nod by the President, a showcause notice has been issued seeking a response from the university over the alleged irregularities.
