Veteran musician Elton John paid tribute to longtime friend and singer George Michael, who died of heart failure at the age of 53.
Michael, who launched his career with Wham! in the 1980s and continued his success as a solo performer, is said to have "passed away peacefully at home," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Taking to Instagram, John expressed his grief over Michael's demise.

"I am in deep shock. I have lost a beloved friend - the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist. My heart goes out to his family and all of his fans," John wrote alongside a photo of him and Michael.
The two pop legends even collaborated together on a cover of John's hit "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" in 1991.
