I will not bring bad name to Kannadigas: CJI

Chief Justice of India H L Dattu, who started his legal profession in Karnataka, today assured the people of the state that he would never bring a bad name while rendering services as the head of the judiciary.

"What I am supposed to do as Chief Justice of this country. I can certainly assure the citizens of this state - my Kanndigas - look I may not bring good name to you but certainly I will not bring a bad name," he said replying at a felicitation organised by the Bar Association of Bangalore here.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka High Court Chief Justice D H Waghela among others were present on the occasion.
 

Before his elevation as a judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Dattu had served as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court and Chhattisgarh High Court.

63-year-old Justice Dattu was sworn in Chief Justice of India by President Pranab Mukherjee on September 28, succeeding Justice R M Lodha. He will have a tenure of 14 months.
