A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted by alleged Naxals on a road, was recovered by security forces from the insurgency-hit Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, police said today.

A Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) team- an elite wing of CRPF - recovered the IED, weighing 10 kg, from an under-construction road last evening, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela said.

The explosive was recovered from the forests of Tarrem village under Basaguda police station, the ASP said.

"The paramilitaries patrolling the Basaguda-Tarrem under construction route spotted the IED. They removed and destroyed it with the help of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS)," Elesela added.
