In a statement, the Urban Development Ministry said that the Central Public Works Department executed the project which comprised of eight 5 to 9 storeyed blocks at a cost Rs 88.62 crores.
The hostels -- Girnar' and Udaigiri -- are disabled friendly and have all common facilities including interaction area and courtyards and basement is provided to cater the parking requirements, the statement said.
These hostels add a capacity of 1017 beds to the existing 3552 seats, taking the tally to a total of 4569 seats for boys against the requirement of 5396 boy students.
The statement also added that environment friendly materials like fly ash in concrete, fly ash bricks, clay tiles, natural stones , mirror optic fixtures, energy efficient luminaries, and maintenance free external finish have been used.
The hostels were inaugurated by Dr Vijay P Bhatkar, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Delhi in the presence of R K Shevgaonkar, Director IIT Delhi, S.K.Mittal, Director General CPWD and others, the statement said.
