Independent MLA S K Sunn today announced that he would be an associate member of the United Democratic Party (UDP), an ally of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).
Sunn told reporters that he hoped to be able to contribute to the state by associating himself with the regional party in the state.
UDP president and Speaker Donkupar Roy welcomed Sunn at a small function in his residence.
Sunn's association with the UDP has increased the tally of the ruling MDA to 39 MLAs in the 60-member house.
The MDA has 20 National People's Party (NPP) MLAs, 7 UDP legislators, four Peoples Democratic Front MLAs and two each of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Hill State Peoples Democratic Party.
