India, Laos discuss enhancing bilateral engagement

India and Laos today reviewed their entire gamut of bilateral relations and explored ways to enhance engagement in various areas during a Joint Commission meeting.

The eighth Joint Commission meeting was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.

Both sides discussed issues of mutual interests besides exploring ways to further boost ties in trade and commerce.

Laos and India have signed several agreements over the past few years which laid down the framework for bilateral cooperation in areas like science and technology, economic cooperation and trade as well as in defence.
 

Indian entrepreneurs have committed over USD 950 million in plantation, iron ore and some other areas in Laos.

In today's meeting, both sides reviewed ongoing initiatives between the two countries while stressing on further expansion of ties.
