India needs to deliver a environmentally sustainable and non-inflationary GDP growth of 7-8 per cent, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said today.

"We need to take India to a different trajectory. India should deliver a gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 7-8 per cent...It should be non-inflationary and environmentally sustainable," Sinha said a PHD Chamber event here.

He further said the new government is focused on minimum government with maximum governance and believes in "empowerment, not empty entitlement".

"Our government is for the poor. But if we for the poor it does not mean that we are not pro-business. We have to help and encourage the businesses to flourish," he added.

Flagging unemployment as a very big problem, he said India needs to create 1 million jobs per year.
