India and Pakistan will not be able to find a solution to the Kashmir problem on their own, moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said today as he wrote letters to several religious leaders across the world, including Pope Francis, and others to seek their intervention.

Besides the Pope, he also sent letters to the Dalai Lama, Imam Kaa'ba in Mecca, Shankarachrya Jayendra Saraswathi as well as to ambassadors of various countries in New Delhi, United Nations, European Union and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding the "urgent and grave situation" in Kashmir, a Hurriyat spokesman said.

He said Mirwaiz called upon them to take the situation in the Valley seriously and use their offices to get this issue on the table for an "imaginative solution".

"India and Pakistan cannot and are not able to do this on their own," Mirwaiz said in the letter.

"If we are to see economic prosperity and development, education and progress, peace and security in South Asia, it becomes imperative that the international community take this seriously and be proactive in appraising themselves of the ground reality in Kashmir and use their good offices to get this issue on the table for an imaginative solution," said the letter, copies of which were released to the media here.
