India to provide NRs 33.9 million for eye camps in Nepal

India will provide an assistance of 33.90 million Nepali rupees for eye care programmes in various districts of Nepal.

A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed between the Embassy of India, Kathmandu and Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS for providing the grant.

The MoU will cover the cost of conducting 15,000 cataract surgeries through mobile screening camps to be organised in various districts across Nepal.

India has been providing assistance to NNJS for eye cure programme in Nepal as part of the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme since 2001.

Under the programme, over one lakh people have so far been cured of cataract and trachoma and optical devices/spectacles have been distributed to over 37,000 school children.
