Indo-Bangla border meet on mutual issues ends on high note

An Indo-Bangladesh Border meeting was held today at the border town of Mamit, Mizoram's Additional Secretary for Home Lalbiakzama, who led the Indian delegation, said.

Lalbiakzama told PTI over phone from Mamit that issues like abduction by insurgent groups hiding in Bangladesh and illegal infiltration into India were discussed in the meeting.

He said other issues like drug trafficking, arms smuggling and movement of insurgents were also deliberated on.

The two sides agreed to continue the talks and also remain in contact over e-mail and telephone to ensure better cooperation between the two countries.

The Indo-Bangladesh border meeting was held following a meeting of Union Home Secretary and his Bangladeshi counterpart in New Delhi in October, 2012 in which the two neighbouring countries agreed to have better cooperation and increase the volume of border trade.
 

Today's meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of Mamit, Lunglei and Lawngtlai districts, Commandants of two BSF battalions, senior officials from the Revenue and Trade and Commerce departments, while the Bangladeshi delegation comprised of Deputy Commissioners and SPs of of Rangamati and Bandarban, Director of 25 Border Guard battalion and other senior officials.
