Nickel prices gained 0.25 per cent to Rs 591.40 per kg in futures market today as speculators built-up positions amid a firming trend at spot market on increased demand from alloy makers even as the metal weakened overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in current month gained Rs 1.50, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 591.40 per kg in a business turnover of 999 lots.
The metal for delivery in April rose by a similar margin to trade at Rs 597.50 per kg in 7 lots.
Analysts said rising demand from alloy-makers at domestic spot market influenced nickel futures but the metal's weakness at the London Metal Exchange (LME) limited gains.
