Injured tigress dies in MP's Van Vihar National Park

An injured tigress, brought to Van Vihar National Park here from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR), died today during treatment, an official said.

The big cat was brought to Van Vihar in June last year from BTR, a Public Relations Department official said, adding that it was found in the Khatoli range of BTR with severe injuries around the neck.

The tigress was being treated in the indoor ward of the Wildlife Hospital located in Van Vihar, with officials stating that its condition was improving as a six-inch deep wound in the neck was healing.

However the tigress' condition started deteriorating from February 4 and it had stopped consuming food since then, an official said.
 

The official informed that the possible reason for death could be "renal disinfection leading to toxemia and respiratory failure.
