INLD's 'jail bharo' campaign aimed at deceiving people: Khattar

Press Trust of India  |  Bhiwani

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar

Lal Khattar said today that the 'jail bharo' agitation by the INLD for the construction of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal was an attempt by the party to "deceive" people of the state.

He said the Supreme Court has given its judgment on the issue and another verdict is expected soon. But the INLD was "deceiving" the people of the state on the issue, he said.

The Indian National Lok Dal launched the campaign from Bhiwani on May 1 to pressure the government on the issue. It has accused the ruling BJP of deliberately delaying the cnal's construction even after the order of Supreme Court in 2016.

Interacting with panchayat representatives in Chaang village in Bhiwani district, Khattar said the Centre has increased the minimum support price for Kharif crops by up to 50 per cent as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission.

The MSP for millet (bajra) has been increase from Rs 1,450 to Rs 1,950, he said.

"In Haryana, the BJP may be the ruling party but I believe that the government belongs to each and every person. Keeping this in mind, we are working for the welfare of all parts of the state and every section of society," he said.

Khattar assured the people at the meeting that the work on all announcements made by him would be executed soon. He urged the representatives to clear the payment of electricity bills of their respective villages.

Under a comprehensive water conservation plan, daily drinking water availability in rural areas would be increased to 130 litres per person, he said.
