The Maharashtra Government today told the Legislative Assembly that insurance companies have rejected the request to extend the deadline for payment of crop insurance premium.
Agriculture minister Eknath Khadse said he had spoken to union agriculture minister and secretary and apprised them about the situation.
"I held meetings with insurance companies till last night. Now, the only solution is to meet union finance minister Arun Jaitley," he said.

The issue was raised by NCP legislator Dilip Walse Patil, who said the local staff was busy with Gram Panchayat polls and hence, the government should seek an extension for payment of premium.
Today, i.E July 31, is the last date for farmers to pay crop insurance premium.
