A seven-member gang, allegedly involved in more than 200 thefts in over 12 states, was arrested here today.

The seven persons hailed from Maharashtra-- six from Rampur and one from Kalyan--, City Police Commissioner P Prakash told reporters here.

The arrested are Rahim Mirza (26), Muhammad Anna Sait (23), Sakheer Yusuf Khan (22), Nissar Dadamiya Sait (35), Abdul Majeed Mahbool, Gulam Ali Jaffery and Akhbar Mahbool Sait, he said.

The gang's modus operandi was to approach rich women and introduce themselves as special security personnel and cheat them by placing 'fake' gold ornaments instead of their original ones.
