Irked over civic officials not picking up garbage from their locality, a group of people in Bhusawal town near here collected the trash and dumped it into the compound of local Municipal Council today.

According to eyewitnesses, residents of Jam Mohalla, including women, collected the garbage lying on streets, loaded it on hand-carts and dumped the heaps of waste in the compound of Bhusawal Municipal Council.

This form of protest by residents came barely days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ambitious 'Clean India' campaign with much fanfare on October 2.

Civic officials were not available for comment.

Bharat Rathor, Chief Officer of the Municipal Council, did not respond to calls on his cellphone. Health Inspector D R Phalak, too, did not pick up phone calls.
