Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said the Union Budget was "pro-poor" and "an endeavour to re-build modern India".

"It is a budget for re-building modern India and an attempt to heal wounds left by the erstwhile UPA government," Chouhan said, reacting to the Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

"This budget will lay the foundation of a powerful, rich and dignified India. Whether it is the issue of internal security or the issue urban-rural development or infrastructure development, it has focused on every sphere. The budget has specially taken care of farmers and the poor," he said.

It will also bring new hope in the lives of women, particularly mothers and daughters, and will have a long-lasting impact, the Chief Minister added.
