Italian tourist injured

A 56-year-old Italian tourist suffered injuries after she fell down in panic on seeing a wild elephant suddenly near her while trekking at Thekkedy wild life sanctuary in the district.

The tourist, Monica, has been admitted to the ICU of the private St John's hospital at Kattapanna with injuries, hospitalsources said.

The mishap occurred yesterday during a "Nature Walk" programme of the Forest Department.

Monica, her husband and daughter were part of a tourist group who are on a visit to Kerala.
