Organised by the wives welfare association of the border guarding force, the annual three-day exhibition that began today showcased handicraft products from various units of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
Carpets, shawls, dry fruits, herbal products, cane furniture, Lucknowi 'chikan' embroidery and a host of other local products are being displayed at the mela.
Inaugurating the fair, National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Mamta Sharma said the exhibition reflects that the wives of ITBP personnel are independent even as their husbands carried out their duty at the border.
"This exhibition speaks of empowerment, growth and development of women. It shows that women are being well taken care of even when their husbands are posted on duty at the borders," she said.
President of the ITBP wives association Reena Sinha, wife of force chief Ranjit Sinha, said the exhibition was an effort to make the families of ITBP personnel engaged in self-employment works.
The 'mela' will continue till November 4.
