J-K: 14 civilians killed in mine blasts in past 5 years

Jammu and Kashmir government today said fourteen civilians have been killed and 86 others injured in mine blasts in the state during its tenure.

Among the mine blasts victims, one civilian was killed and four others injured in Bishnah constituency, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the Assembly today in a written reply to the question of JSM member Ashwani Kumar.

The landmine incidents are not covered in existing ex-gratia roles notified by the state government, he said adding ex-gratia relief in such cases is to be provided by the Ministry of Defence in accordance with the guidelines framed by them.
 

Omar further said that out of 100 cases of land mine blast victims, payment of ex-gratia has been made in 52 cases either by Army or Deputy Commissioner concern as per guidelines.

The rest of the cases are under active consideration and the ex-gratia relief shall be paid in due course of time after obtaining sanctions, he said.
