J&K Golf tournament to be held on Dec 25 in Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir Gold Association (JKGA) will hold a golf tournament of armed forces here on December 25 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Indo-Pak 1965 war.

"JKCA is holding a golf tournament in Jammu winter capital city on December 25 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of 1965 war with Pakistan," Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh told reporters here today.

Singh, who is Chairman of Organising Committee of Gold tournament, said Governor N N Vohra will inaugurate the tournament.

"Our nation has very proudly been celebrating the Golden Jubilee of 1965 war with Pakistan, wherein India emerged victorious. We the Jammu and Kashmir Golf Association also wanted to be a part of this celebration," he said.
 

Singh said that the association decided to hold a golf tournament as it was a popular sport among the defence forces.

"A proposal was put forward to the Chief of Staff, western command General Gurdeep Singh, who after communicating it with the GOC-in-C General K J Singh accepted the programme", he said.

The Deputy CM further informed that there will be three teams to contest for the 1965 Golden Jubilee Golf cup---the Western Command, Northern Command and the J&K Golf Association.

"Eight Gneral of Army will also take part in the tournament. We have also requested the Governor to take part in the programme," he said.

Singh said that prominent participants from armed forces including golfers from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh, J&K and Delhi will clash for the coveted title on December 25, 2015.

The awards ceremony will be held at Usman Officers Institute in the evening, he said.

Governor N N Vohra, the chief guest for the occasion will inaugurate the tournament at Bhalol Golf Course (BEPTA) Miran Sahib and will play the entire 18 holes to commemorate this historic event.

GOC-in-C Western Command, GOC-in-C Northern Command and Corp Commanders of the respective corps under these commands will participate as teams, Singh said.
The tournament will be held under the aegis of the Deputy

Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, being the Chairman of the Tournament organizing committee along with Secretary General of the association I B Singh, Members IGP J P Singh Commissioner Civil Military Liaison, Brigadier J S Samyal, Ashok Wattal and Vice President Adeep Singh Mehta.

Gen B S Jaswal former Army Commander, Gen Jasbir Singh Ex-Chief of Staff and Col of the Dogra Regiment will also be participating in the tournament, the Deputy CM said.

Singh added that Defence Minister Manohar Parikar along with the Chief of Army Staff General D S Suhag have not only sent their good wishes and felicitations but also extended their full support to the tournament.
