Jail inmate dies during scuffle

An undertrial prisoner who had a scuffle with a fellow prisoner died in the central jail of Amritsar here today.

Police said Vikramjit Singh, the deceased, was arrested a few days ago for offences under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act by Tarn Taran police.

Confirming the incident, police said that an argument on minor issue led to a brawl between two jail inmates whereupon Vikramjit suffered cardiac arrest and died.

Meanwhile, a magisterial enquiry has been ordered. The body of the prisoner to be handed over to the family after an autopsy, police said.
