Janmashtami, also known as 'Gokulashtami' in south India, celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, was today celebrated across Tamil Nadu with traditional pomp and gaiety.
Houses were decorated with Lord Krishna portraits and were offered delicacies such as 'seedai', made of milk, ghee and butter, known to be Krishna's favourites.
A trail of a toddler's footprints were made with flour from the main entrance into pooja room of house, indicating the arrival of Lord Krishna.

Many 'Krishnas' were seen in the morning on roads as parents took their children on two-wheelers, dressed like Lord Krishna to schools, which had organised special celebrations.
Some temples had organised special prayers.
