In a politically significant development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had an unscheduled meeting with MDMK leader Vaiko. Jayalalithaa who was travelling to Siruthavur today, met Vaiko who was on a 'padayatra' in Kancheepuram district as part of his campaign against liquor. Seeing the MDMK leader, Jayalalithaa came out of her car and had a brief chat with him. The meeting of the two leaders assumes significance in the backdrop of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled next year. Vaiko, who had boycotted the 2011 Assembly polls over the issue of inadequate allocation of seats, was critical of the AIADMK supremo and had even accused her of pursuing "anti-people" policies. Nanjil Sampath, a close confidante of Vaiko had recently quit MDMK and joined AIADMK and was immediately appointed Deputy Propaganda Secretary by Jayalalithaa.
