JE held for allegedly take bribe

A Junior Engineer of the Electricity Board has been arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs.3500 for providing domestic connection to a house at Panaiyur in this district, police said today.

They said Sonai, who wanted to build a house in the plot owned by his wife, had sought electricity connection for starting construction work, and JE Chandran allegedly demanded Rs.3500 as bribe for providing the connection.

On a complaint to the Vigilance and anti-corruption, a trap was set and when Sonai handed over chemical smeared currency notes, the official was caught red-handed, police said.

He was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days today, police added.
