A Joint Collector of Narsinghpur district in Madhya Pradesh was Wednesday arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a contractor at Gotegaon near here, Lokayukta police said.
The official was identified as, R K Vanshkar (59), they said.
"Vanshkar had sought Rs 2 lakh bribe from a road construction contractor. He demanded the bribe to clear papers of the contractor to dig mud mines for constructing roads," Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dilip Jharwade told PTI over phone.
After Rs 2 lakh cash was delivered to Vanshkar, who also happens to be Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gotegaon, he asked his aide to hide it under a sofa cover. We recovered the money hidden under the cover, he added.
"Besides that, we also recovered Rs 2,65,500 separately from his room at Gotegaon rest house where he was staying," the DSP said.
The accused was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and produced in a court.
