Two students of Jadavpur University were allegedly beaten up and thrown out of their hostel room by another group of students in the wee hours today.

In a complaint to the university authorities, the students Jahangir Hossain and Partha Mal alleged that a group of students had been threatening them to keep silent over a case of molestation in March, this year.

They said the students beat them up at 1 am and pushed them out of the Jadavpur Main Hostel where they had been staying.

Hossain alleged that he had earlier also complained to the dean of students and hostel superintendent, but no action was taken.

He said that they had been facing ragging themselves and had tried to prevent the new students from getting ragged inside the hostel two weeks back after which they were beaten up in the wee hours today.

When contacted, the university's dean of students, Dr Rajat Ray, told PTI that an enquiry was initiated into the complaint.

"We have an anti-ragging squad which is investigating into the incident. Action will be taken on the complaint as per the rules and regulations," he said.
