CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat today said he was optimistic about BJD becoming part of a secular democratic alliance, alternative to Congress and BJP, after Lok Sabha elections.

"We expect all secular parties, who are fighting against Congress and BJP in the Lok Sabha election, will be in the secular democratic alliance. The secular democratic alliance would take shape only after the elections," Karat said here.

Karat was here to campaign for Ali Kishore Patnaik, the CPI(M) candidate from Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency.

Ridiculing BJP's claim of a "Modi wave" blowing in the country, the CPI-M leader said the saffron party would be far behind the majority mark to form the government at the Centre.

Similarly, he said Congress would also face a miserable defeat. "There is no Modi wave. I have seen other waves across the country," he said.

Karat said the next round of talks about the democratic and secular alliance would be held only after the election.

"We hope the alternative would take concrete shape after the election," he said.

Karat in his speech came down heavily on Congress and BJP, saying "the Congress is a sinking boat and BJP has only created a wave without any reality.
