Meco Racing's Akhil Khushlani stole the limelight by winning the inaugural race of JK Tyre's new initiative, an international class Formula BMW India series, at the Kari Motor Speedway here today.

Starting from the pole position, Khushlani, who became the first Asian to secure a top 5 finish at the World Karting Championship at Langkawi, Malaysia, crossed the chequered flag 5.052 seconds clear of Arjun Maini and Vishnu Prasad in the opening race of the series aimed at promoting young Indian drivers.

The manner in which Khushlani pushed his car to its limits also showed the set up of the vehicle.

Whenever Bangalore school boy, Maini tried his to close the gap between the leader and himself, Khushlani was swift in analysing the situation and increased the acceleration to hold to his lead.

However, there was stiff competition between second placed Maini and Vishnu Prasad who battled it out for 15 laps.

Meanwhile, the two Formula LGB 4 events also witnessed exciting competition.

The winner of the first race Ajay Kini of Bangalore was denied victory after he was given 10-point penalty for colliding with Sarosh Hataria in the final lap. Kini was classified sixth while victory was awarded to Saran Vikram.

Vishnu Prasad and Sarosh Hataria, who finished second and third respectively, were also disqualified after their cars were found to be 'underweight'.

This helped Sara Vikram to claim the top honours and Karthik Krishna and Tejas Ram Averipakam were declared second and third respectively.

The second Formula LGB 4 race was won Sarosh Hataria despite constant pressure from Saran Vikram and Prasad.

In the Volkswagen Polo R-Cup qualifying event, Mumbai's Rahil Noorani secured the pole position with a timing of 1:14.335s, followed by South African Jeffrey Kruuger (1:124.489s) and Nagpur's Anshul Shah (1:14.999s).
