A cameraman of a news channel sustained head injuries when he and a woman reporter were allegedly assaulted by mob in Digha village near here today while they were covering a demolition drive, police said.

As per the preliminary information available, the cameraman, identified as Sandeep Bharti, and Swati Naik, the Navi Mumbai correspondent of the leading channel, were attacked by the mob without provocation.

The duo had gone to the township abutting Thane, where razing of illegal structures was undertaken by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on the directions of court.

When contacted, an official from Rabale police station confirmed the incident, saying the cameraman was hospitalised.

The reporter too was taken to a local hospital, but was discharged after treatment.

Further details are awaited.
