The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (Second Amendment) Bill-2014 was passed unopposed in the West Bengal Assembly in the absence of the entire opposition.

Tabling the Bill, state Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim said it is necessary and expedient to amend the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, 1980 to incorporate provision for determination of annual valuation of the land or buildings or part thereof occupied by tenants in the city.

The minister also described the bill as exclusively for residential purpose and that commercial issues would never come under its jurisdiction.

With this bill, both tenants and landlords in the metropolis would be benefited in terms of determination of annual valuation of land or buildings or part thereof occupied by tenants, the minister added.
