Lankan court orders release of 41 TN fishermen

A Sri Lankan court today ordered release of 41 fishermen of Rameswaram and Mandapam, who were arrested by the island Navy.

Twenty-one fishermen were arrested on July 5 and the rest on August 5 for allegedly fishing in Lankan waters.

The Judicial Magistrate of Mannar court Anandhi Kanakarathinam, however, ordered detention of ten boats seized by the Lankan navy, Innocent Fishermen Organisation President, U.Arulanandam said.

The 35 fishermen of Pamban, who were already released by a Vavuniya court recently, were still in Sri Lanka, awaiting boats for ferrying them to India.

The 76 fishermen are expected to reach here either today or tomorrow.
