Press Trust of India Kolkata
Left Front chairman Biman Bose today said that it would be impossible to hold the coming panchayat election in West Bengal in a free and fair manner unless the state election commission took necessary steps.

The situation created by ruling Trinamool Congress with the help of a section of police and administration was not conducive for a free and fair poll, he alleged and said LF candidates were again attacked at some places including Bhangar in South 24 paraganas during the day when they were filing their nomination papers.

In such a situation free and fair election was impossible unless the Commission took necessary steps, he said.

He alleged that during its two-year rule, TMC government has stifled democracy.

Filing of nominations for the first phase panchayat poll in nine districts schedued on July 2, began yesterday.
