Actress-director Lena Dunham has been hospitalized to undergo surgery for a ruptured ovarian cyst.

The 29-year-old "Girls" creator, who had discussed her health problems extensively on social media, will be released from the unnamed hospital post the surgery, reported People magazine.

"Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis. This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital.

"Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for you understanding and hope that Lena's privacy will be respected," her spokesperson, Cindi Berger, said in a statement.

Last month, Dunham took to her Facebook page to update fans on her ongoing health struggles, sharing that because of her "chronic condition" she would be taking a break from media to rest.
