Leopard skin seized during raid

Skin of a leopard believed to have been killed inside Similipal sanctuary area in Mayurbhanj district was seized from a youth during a raid by forest officials.

Following a tip-off, forest officials of Dudhiani range raided a weekly hat and the leopard skin was found in possession of Bikram Patra (30) of Salarapada village who was on his way to market the skin, forest officials said.

However, two accomplices of Patra managed to escape in a motor-bike.

A case under Protection of Wildlife Act was registered against the culprit.

In an another incident a carcass of a tusker was found inside Satabedi forest limits under Karanjia forest division today. The intestine of the tusker was bulging out of its body and there were signs of profuse bleeding .
 

The tusker had fallen victim to a tussel between two tuskers in the forest, the official said.
