A six-year old leopardess which fell into 30-foot deep dry well at nearby Yellanahalli village was rescued today by forest officials after an eight-hour effort.
The villagers heard the roars of the feline from the well late last night and informed forest department officials this morning.
The officers, along with police and district officials, rushed to the spot, a defunct factory, and sent down a cage with two hens in it, to attract the carnivore into it, after failing to trap it by a noose, department sources said.

They suspect the leopardess might have fallen in while in search of prey.
The rescue operations, which started around 9 AM, ended after the animal entered the cage this evening and was lifted out.
The animal would be released back to the dense forests in Mudumalai area so that it does not stray into human habitations, the sources said.
