Lieutenant Gen Vishwambhar Singh new GOC for Maha & Guj area

Lieutenant General Vishwambhar Singh today took over as the General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa area, from Major General Anuj Mathur.

Singh is a graduate from IIT-Roorkee and commissioned in the Corps of Engineers in 1981. The GO is coming from IHQ of Ministry of Defence where he was tenanting the appointment of director general of Weapon and Equipment. He has held key Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in the Army, stated a Defence release issued here today.

As a sportsman, Singh has represented the country in many international level events including two Asian Games at Delhi in 1982 and Seoul in 1986. He has also participated in many other international regattas, namely world rowing championship of 1983 which was held in Germany followed by Asian championship in Hong Kong in 1985 to name a few.
 

He was national champion in single scull category from 1982 to 1986. Singh is a recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service.

Major General Anuj Mathur, Vishisht Seva Medal, will be proceeding on transfer as General Officer Commanding, Jaipur Sub Area, it stated.
