A life convict from Gujarat's Sabarmati Jail who escaped in April while being taken to a hospital has been nabbed by Mumbai police, a senior official said Monday.

Shiraz Pathan (32), alias Udta Kabutar, had been sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping and robbery and was lodged at Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Central Jail, he said.

In April this year, Pathan had escaped while Gujarat police was taking him to Ahmedabad civil hospital for treatment, the official added.

Acting on a tip-off, Mumbai police Sunday evening nabbed Pathan from near the Western Express Highway Metro station in suburban Andheri, the official said.

"Based on the information, officials of Crime Branch Unit III laid a trap and arrested Pathan at around 9:30 pm on Sunday. He was handed over to Gujarat police on Monday," Dilip Sawant, deputy commissioner of police (detection), said.
