A local court today sentenced a 61-year-old man to life for kidnapping and trying to sexually harass a minor girl near here last year.
The prosecution case was that Manickkam had abducted the 12-year-old girl on his bicycle on the pretext of giving her a lift home and took her to a house where he tried to sexually harass her in September last.
The girl managed to escape and complained to her parents, following which Manickam was arrested.
District Mahila Court judge Thirunavukarasu sentenced him to life for kidnapping her and also awarded seven years RI for attempting to sexually harass her. Both sentences will run concurrently, the judge said.
