A Bangladeshi, suspected to be a cattle smuggler, was killed by a lightning strike when he was trying to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border with two cows.

According to a senior BSF official, when a team went for routine patrolling during the wee hours, they found the man's body near Burmanpara outpost along the border, besides the carcass of the cows.

It is suspected that he was trying to smuggle the cows last night when the lightning struck and he was killed.

The BSF official said the person has been identified as Rahamat Ali (36) of Kalaichar Pakura village in Kurigram district of Bangladesh.

After conducting the post-mortem, BSF will formally hand over the body to their Bangladesh counterpart.
