The Maharashtra Government is exploring legal options for bringing in a legislation to restart bullock cart races in the state.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed concerned officials to seek the legal advise on the issue, senior BJP leader and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Girish Bapat told reporters here today.

"There is a lot of demand for restarting the bullock cart races," he said.

The demand to lift the ban on the bullock cart races, imposed by the Supreme Court in 2014, has been rising steadily ever since 'Jallikattu' was allowed in Tamil Nadu after an amendment bill was passed in the Legislative Assembly for conducting the famous bull taming sport.

Various sections in state are demanding that Fadnavis promulgate an ordinance to pave the way for holding the bullock cart races.
