Maha: Five of family killed in blast while making fireworks

Five members of a family were killed and four other injured in a blast while making fireworks at home at Kavathe Ekand village in the district, police said today.

Traditionally, the Dussehra festival is celebrated in the village by putting on firework shows; the explosive devices are made at home by the locals themselves.

The blast took place at around 5.30 last evening at the house of Malangave family, police said.

The deceased were identified as Shrimati Malangave (80), Mohan Malangave (55), Aditya Malangave (9), Chetan Malangave (14) and Shobha Niranjane.

The injured have been admitted to the civil hospital here. State Home Minister R R Patil today visited the hospital to enquire about their health.
