Maharashtra Government has issued notices to 107 sugar factories who have not paid fair and remunerative price (FRP) to cane growers.

"The government has issued notices to 107 mills," state BJP President Raosaheb Danve told reporters here today.

The government's action follows a violent agitation by sugarcane growers at the state Sugar Commissionerate in Pune yesterday. The sugarcane crushing season began on November 1.

There is also a move to seal godowns of sugar factories in the next seven days and auction sugar so that the FRP can be paid to sugarcane growers.

Altogether 174 sugar factories, comprising 98 cooperative and 76 private firms, are involved in the current crushing season.

Danve said a delegation of all-party leaders, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will meet Union Finance Minister on the issue of sugarcane sector in Maharashtra.
