A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a minor last month and confining him apparently without any motive except that he was fond of children, police said today.
Senior Inspector Venkat Andhale of the Thane Rural Police's Crime Branch said that Yashwant Deoo Dhobi kidnapped the 8-year-old boy from Padgha in Thane on July 27.
The child is a resident of Kasne village in Bhiwandi taluka and his parents had lodged a complaint of kidnapping at Padgha police station immediately after he went missing, the official said.
Officials said that Thane Rural Superintendent of Police Shivaji Rathod asked the Crime Branch to handle the probe after no headway was made in the case.
Acting on a tip-off, a Crime Branch team yesterday managed to rescue the boy from a house in a forest in Paini in Ghoti area of Nashik district, about 100 kilometres from here, an official said.
An official said that the accused, a resident of Dolkhambh area of Shahapur taluka in Thane, has told police that he kidnapped the child as he was fond of children and had no other motive.
The official said that further probe into the case as well as claims of the accused was underway.
