Press Trust of India Mumbai
Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council, Vinod Tawde today said the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance would again raise the demand for debate on the irrigation scam in the Upper House tomorrow.

Tawde (BJP), who met Governor K Sankaranarayanan in Pune earlier in the day, said the Congress-NCP government cannot stop the Opposition from debating the scam and the white-paper published by the government on the issue.

"We told the Governor that we will continue with our demand of debate," Tawde told reporters here.

Functioning of the Legislative Council has been affected for the last three days, as Opposition is seeking a debate and NCP is opposing it saying that the matter is before the court.

The issue relates to government's failure to complete several irrigation projects in the last ten years, despite an expenditure of Rs 70,000 crore. PILs have been filed alleging a scam and seeking a CBI probe.

The irrigation portfolio has been with NCP during this period.
