Mahanavami celebrated in Bengal

Mahanavami, signifying the third and penultimate day of Goddess Durga's visit to earth, was celebrated in West Bengal today amidst rains as a fallout of Cyclone 'Phailin'.

With thoughts of having to bid the goddess adieu for another year on Monday, Dashami, people thronged puja pandals here, the drizzles notwithstanding.

'Sandhipuja', signifying the end of the second day and the beginning of the third, was performed at community puja pandals and those in households before dawn.
