A major fire today broke out in the 24-floor Chatterjee International building, trapping several people on the top floor of the high rise which houses many commercial establishments on the Jawaharlal Nehru Road here.
Five fire engines rushed to the spot and four persons trapped on the 15th and 16th floors of the building have been rescued.
According to police, the possibility of more people being trapped in the building is less as the fire broke out before office hours. The commercial building houses aroud 200 offices.
However, the cause of the fire and the extent of damages are yet to be determined.
