A major fire broke out in the Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran district today.
The fire broke out in Madanpur forest area under the Reserve and spread over a vast tract of about 100 acres destroying
trees, District Forest Officer (DFO) Nandkishore said.
Many animals also perished in the fire, he said, without giving details about the animals that were killed.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Efforts are on to bring the fire under control, he said, adding that forest guards were finding the job difficult in view of westerly winds blowing in the area.
